In December 2025, the Trump administration started flooding the Minneapolis area with thousands of federal agents, calling their actions the “largest immigration enforcement operation ever.”

What followed felt more like a paramilitary occupation, and even Native Americans—whose ancestors predate the United States itself—have been stopped and detained by ICE. Federal agents roamed the streets, pulling over people who appear to them as immigrants. Residents patroled their neighborhoods, and were met with tear gas and pepper balls as they attempted to document and disrupt arrests. Some encounters even turned violent.

Federal agents have now shot and killed two demonstrators in Minneapolis, Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
